Suquet de gambes / Shrimp sailor's soup
Supposedly something fishermen cook on board or with discarded fish, variations of this can be found all along the Mediterranean shore, from Iberia to Greece.
Specific to this Catalan version would be the use of potatoes and a dry mash ("picada"), and the fact that even though the fish soup and the potatoes are cooked separately, we use the soup to cook the stew, and then as the base for the sauce/thicker soup.
